UPDATE (10:50 a.m.):

The juveniles in custody are currently being interviewed. They are current students, according to Detective John Hatcher of the Casper Police Department.

Hatcher did not specify the number of juveniles involved with the threat. He also declined to specify the ages of the juveniles.

Federal authorities are involved in the investigation, Hatcher told media at a press briefing Wednesday morning. He said police believe everyone involved with the threat has been contacted.

Hatcher says Wednesday's potential threat does not appear connected to threats received by other Wyoming school districts. It also has not been determined whether the threat was related to the national school walkout.

"It could have been a very serious situation today," Hatcher said. "This potential threat could have been very serious in nature if we would have not reacted."

"None of these individuals got near any of the schools," Hatcher added.

Hatcher would not comment on whether the students involved had access to weapons.

Police did not contact the juveniles involved at any local school.

Hatcher also did not comment on whether any of the juveniles involved had threatened a school shooting.

"They were apprehended very quickly," Hatcher told media.

UPDATE (9:38 a.m.): The lockout has been lifted throughout the Natrona County School District, and the Casper Police Department says multiple people involved with the threat are in custody.

Detective John Hatcher says in a statement that the lockout was left in place until police could complete their investigation of the potential threat.

Hatcher did not specify the number of people in custody.

"With safety in mind all activities that were planned for today's 'National Walkout' have been canceled," Hatcher's statement reads.

In fact, the district says all outside activities, including recess, have been cancelled for the day.

The department and the district are "vigorously investigating all elements related to this incident."

UPDATE: Police now have a person in custody. They are investigating to see if anyone else is involved.

======================================================

The Natrona County School District has placed all schools under a voluntary lockout.

The notice says it is due to what is called an "indirect threat." The nature of that threat is not known, but today is the national walk out day for students to protest gun violence.

Spokesperson Tanya Southerland could not say if the threat is related to that, but students who planned to participate will not now.

Casper Police are investigating and will put out a release shortly.

Everyone, students and staff, are safe and there will be no recess or other outside activities until the investigation is complete.

We will update when more information is available.
