No Injuries in Casper Kitchen Fire, 2 Cats Rescued

No people were injured and two cats were rescued following a fire in a residential kitchen Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to a residence in the 300 block of South McKinley Street just before 1:30 p.m. Firefighters had the fire knocked down within one minute of their arrival.

The fire originated and was contained in the kitchen.

Casper Fire-EMS Spokesman Dane Anderson said working smoke detectors in the home were a significant factor in the fire not being worse. The residents were not displaced.

McKinley is blocked off between Fifth and Third street as of 2 p.m. Thursday.

The fire's cause remains under investigation.

"Casper Fire-EMS reminds everyone that the leading cause of fires in the kitchen is unattended cooking," the department said in a press release. "Remain in the kitchen when frying, grilling, boiling or boiling food. Turn off the heat source if you must leave the kitchen for any reason."
