Casper police officers on Tuesday investigated a reported school shooting, but found that nothing of the sort had taken place and no threat existed.

Police say a 911 call from a cell phone was received shortly before noon. The caller said a school shooting had occurred at Grant Elementary School, and the shooter was still on the playground.

Multiple officers quickly responded to Grant Elementary. While they were en route, police learned that the GPS coordinates of the phone which had made the 911 call indicated that the phone was located at Journey Elementary School. Officers and Natrona County Sheriff's deputies responded to that school as well.

Officers arrived to find nothing occurring at either school, and ultimately determined no shooting had taken place. Police say there had not been any threat toward anyone at either school.

Grant Elementary School, of course, remains closed following a 2016 vote to shut down the facility by the Natrona County School District Board of Trustees.

In a statement, the District says police identified the 911 call as a prank.

The incident remains under investigation.
