What started as a quiet morning of cleaning tires didn't stay that way for long after a maintenance worker at Natrona County International Airport reportedly stumbled across four bags of cocaine while cleaning an old truck tire on Tuesday.

The Natrona County Sheriff's Office caught the case initially, but has since turned it over to the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation.

According to a sheriff's office incident report, the maintenance worker was tasked with cleaning tires which were mounted on rims at the airport shooting range near Commerce Drive and Six Mile Road.

The man took a pickup load of tires to the maintenance shop so he could take the tires off the rims.

It wasn't long before the man reportedly looked inside an old GoodYear truck tire and found four plastic bags wrapped with duct tape and labeled "cocaine" with black marker, the incident report says.

A deputy responded at about 8:25 a.m. and turned the suspected cocaine over the DCI shortly after 9 a.m. Authorities have not disclosed the amount of cocaine allegedly found.

In the report, it's noted that the shooting range is only separated from Six Mile Road by a pasture fence. It is reportedly common knowledge that for several years, area residents used the area to dump tires and trash.

The deputy was able to use the vegetation on the tire to find the spot where the maintenance worker picked it up. Nothing else was found in the area, and no identical tires were found in the area of the shooting range, the report says.

No suspects have been identified.
