Snow and cold temperatures are expected to move into Central Wyoming for the New Year's Holiday, prompting the National Weather Service in Riverton to issue a Special Weather Statement.

NWS meteorologists say snow will develop Sunday afternoon across Central Wyoming east of the Continental Divide including Natrona County, and will continue into Sunday night. Two to four inches of snow could fall at the lower elevations with four to eight inches in the mountains, and we can expect considerable blowing and drifting snow in exposed areas including South Pass.

Once the snow moves through, the NWS says some of the coldest air of the season will
likely arrive with high temperatures struggling to get above 15 degrees Monday and north winds at 15 to 30 mph causing wind chills of 10 to 20 below zero.

Many areas Monday night should see temperatures of 5 to 15 below zero and possibly colder in low lying areas.
