Soldier’s WWII Helmet Returned to Family After Being Lost for 66 Years [VIDEO]
66 years after it was lost during D-Day, a WWII helmet will finally be returned to the soldier’s family thanks to the efforts of a collector in Minnesota.
Gary Peterson purchased the helmet 10 years ago and put it on a shelf for display. But when inspecting it a week ago, he noticed the name “R.H. Damon” scrawled inside.
After a bit of detective work, Peterson discovered that the helmet belonged to Cpt. Roger H. Damon, who lost it while storming Utah Beach on D-Day.
Peterson was able to locate the soldier’s family and inform them of his amazing discovery. He plans to hand-deliver the item to the soldier’s relatives, Peterson said.
