Two people died Friday night after a head-on collision between a car and a motorcycle near Moorcroft in Crook County.

Michael Sumner, 43, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, was eastbound in a 1989 Toyota Camry on U.S Highway 16 near milepost 204.4 at roughly 8:30 p.m. while 27-year-old Theron Harder of Woodland, California, was westbound on a 2001 Harley-Davidson Sportster.

According to Wyoming Highway Patrol Lt. Kyle McKay, evidence from the roadway showed that the motorcycle crossed the dashed center line and entered the Camry's lane, where the vehicles collided head-on.

The motorcycle traveled on top of the Camry momentarily. Harder was thrown from the motorcycle over the top of the Toyota and was pronounced dead immediately after the crash.

The motorcycle came to rest in a barrow ditch and became engulfed in flames.

The Camry came to rest in the opposite barrow ditch. Sumner remained in his vehicle, but died after several attempts by EMS to stabilize him.

The roadway was dry at the time of the crash. Driver inattention is being investigated as a contributing factor.
