Wyoming Dead + Company Concert Called Off…For Now

Last year, Dead & Company asked promoters to find the pefect venue for an outdoor festival. Naturally, they chose Wyoming. Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts, the concert at the Jackson Hole Hereford Ranch will have to wait another year.

Last week, Teton County Commissioners approved a conditional permit for the event, scheduled to take place Aug. 18 - 19 at a family-owned ranch outside of South Park. Regrettably, the decision came too late and the band had already made other plans.

Last month, County Commisioners denied the promoter's orginal request for a permit, citing logistical concerns about parking and security for the event, which was expected to draw 20,000 fans. Organizers are hopeful that the festival will happen next summer.

Although they've never performed in Wyoming, Dead & Company have a long-standing connection to the Cowboy State. Pinedale native John Perry Barlow was a childhood friend of Bob Weir. Together, they wrote dozens of songs for The Grateful Dead. Barlow later gained fame as a poet and outspoken activist for internet freedom. He died last month at the age of 70.
