Rugged terrain and high winds are hindering firefighters' efforts to contain the Britania Fire, which has burned some 13,300 acres about 15 miles west of Wheatland as of Monday afternoon.

No primary structures have been lost, but the fire has claimed a number of outbuildings. Widespread evacuations have not yet been ordered, but some evacuations have taken place in the Laramie Peak subdivision.

Platte County Public Information Officer Pat Kondas said in a statement that roughly 150 firefighters, mostly local volunteers, are working the blaze. Western and Southern Wyoming Type III Management Team 1 will assume control of the incident at 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Additional crews and engines will be arriving by Tuesday from other states, including California and Florida.

A public meeting regarding the fire is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Exhibit Hall, located at the Platte County Fairgrounds in Wheatland.
