The Holidays are a good time to wax nostalgic and go through old reminders of the past. In that spirit, Casper's famous Lou Taubert Ranch Outfitters found and shared this film on their Facebook page. It shows their old location at Center and Midwest at Christmas time in 1949.

The Taubert legacy spans three generations and more than 80 years. According to Louis Taubert, Jr., his grandfather C.W. Taubert first started business in 1919 with a general hardware and mercantile store. Taubert's Hardware and Ranch Supply was located near Ft. Laramie, and everything from saddles and hay machinery to darning needles and hand powered washing machines to homesteaders.

C.W's son, Lou Taubert, moved the business up to Casper after leaving military service and established the store you see here at Center and Midwest.

Louis Taubert Jr. says they moved operations to the current store on Second Street in the late 50's or early 60's, starting with the main floor and eventually expanding to some 55,000 square feet of retail space on nine floors and a store in Billings, Montana, as well.

The dapper man in the video, by the way, is none other than Lou Taubert himself, checking out the window displays he was so proud of.
