A Casper man was sentenced in a Natrona County court Wednesday on charges of strangulation of a household member and domestic battery.

Natrona County District Court Judge Daniel Forgey handed Matthew Jensen a 2.5- to 4-year prison sentence.

The incident occurred in October.

According to an affidavit filed in the case, police were called to a Burlington Avenue home after receiving a report that Jensen and a woman were fighting in an alleyway.

A witness told police that she saw Jensen dragging the victim by the hair through the alleyway.

When officers spoke with the victim, they saw that she had bruises in "various stages of healing" all over her body. She also had cuts on her face, hands and knees along with a burn mark on her right forearm.

Police noted the victim's voice was hoarse. Initially, the victim said she was hoarse from screaming during the fight but later said Jensen strangled her, according to the affidavit.

"My actions have been foul, to say the least," Jensen said during Wednesday's sentencing hearing. He added that he has mental health issues and asked for Forgey's mercy before he was sentenced.

Before handing down Jensen's sentence, Forgey noted that Jensen can get the help he needs while incarcerated.
