Casper Police Arrest Man For Armed Robbery at C85 Liquor
A man was arrested Friday after allegedly using a knife in a halfhearted robbery attempt at a Casper liquor store.
Juan Carlos Albrecht-Rivera, 36, was booked into jail on a recommended charge of aggravated robbery. He is expected to make his initial appearance in Natrona County Circuit Court at 2 p.m. Monday.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, a Casper police officer responded to C85 Liquor at roughly 1:15 p.m. Friday for a report of a robbery. The general manager said that a man, later identified as Albrecht-Rivera, had pulled a knife on a cashier and "demanded everything."
However, Albrecht-Rivera then handed over the knife, apologized and said he would wait outside for police.
Albrecht-Rivera was smoking a cigarette when the officer approached him. He explained that he had been in Casper for about two weeks, having come into town as part of a commercial trucking team and since left the job.
Since he couldn't kill himself as he had intended, Albrecht-Rivera explained, he figured prison would be a safer option than remaining free.
When asked about his history of mental illness, Albrecht-Rivera said he had previously been diagnosed with an unspecified condition. The prescribed medication helped, but he had run out roughly a week prior.
He was arrested, and police found a suicide note on his person.
