Worm Found Inside Green Pepper from Casper's Eastside Walmart
loading...

When my cousin posted to Facebook about finding a creepy crawly inside of a recently purchased green pepper, I immediately took interest... mostly because I do the bulk of my grocery shopping at Walmart, which is apparently where she bought the pepper.

Yes, Wal-Mart, worms/caterpillars are exactly what I wanted to find when I cut into my green peppers...NOT!!!! So gross!

I am the first to admit that I would be completely grossed out if I cut into a pepper and found a worm (caterpillar?), and it would likely result in me screaming like a little girl. That said, I am a bit torn about whether I am ready to grab a pitchfork and storm the Walmart corporate office along with the rest of the rabble rousers. I mean, bugs eat plants. We eat plants. Doesn't it stand to reason that every now and again our paths will cross.

For my part, I have never discovered any unwanted guests in my fruit or veggies - though I suppose it is possible that a few have slipped through undetected.  So, my question is this, is there some reasonable number of times that we can expect to run into an unexpected bug or insect during lifetime's worth of culinary dealings? Or, on the other hand, is it reasonable to expect that 100% of fruits and vegetables be stowaway-free?

What do you think?
