In an effort to help the public better interact with those suffering from mental health and substance abuse issues, the Cheyenne Police Department is hosting a free seminar this Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

"I think there may be a misperception or hesitancy," said Officer Dan Long. "This is actually going to just talk with people and let them know tips for interacting with them."

Because Cheyenne is at the crossroads of two major interstates and two major railroads, it sees an influx of homeless people, many of which suffer from mental illness.

Long says merchants located near the railroad tracks and main highways can expect to interact with people suffering from these conditions.

"This class is going to very helpful for those who go downtown or may encounter a lot of the transient population where we see a lot of this," said Long.

The seminar will be held at the Cheyenne Public Safety Center located at 415 West 18th Street.
