According to an official release from the Florida Highway Patrol, Arbour's Honda SUV was parked on the side of the road on Highway 192 in Osceola County, Florida on Monday at 3:45 PM, Eastern time. Drivers stopped to assist Arbour, who remained in her vehicle. During this time, one citizen called 911 and reported that Arbour was unresponsive, "like she's in a daze."
The Highway Patrol release goes on to say that after the 911 call, Arbour's vehicle "drove forward, left the roadway, and drove into a retention pond." It is then said that several people jumped into the pond and attempted to pull Arbour out of the vehicle, but the SUV quickly submerged.
According to a report from the Orlando Sentinel, the pond was occupied by a large number of alligators at the time of the incident.
Divers were called in and retrieved Arbour's body. She was pronounced dead a short time later at a Kissimmee, Florida hospital.
A dog that was in Arbour's vehicle was safely rescued and transported to a local animal control facility.
An autopsy is said to be pending.
