A Casper woman is facing felony DUI charges after allegedly hitting and severely hurting a motorcyclist Friday.

Kam Marie Lopez, born in 1983, is charged with DUI-severe bodily injury, possession of marijuana, open container, driving with an expired license and driving without proof of insurance.

According to court records, Casper police were called to the 1600 block of East Yellowstone Highway Friday at 10:28 a.m. When they arrived, police observed a black motorcycle in the middle of the eastbound lane and a silver car off to the side of the road. The motorcycle's driver was bleeding from his right leg.

The motorcyclist told police he was traveling westbound at 30 mph when he saw a silver sedan pull into the roadway. He tried to avoid it but the sedan continued pulling into traffic before hitting the motorcycle. The motorcyclist slid into oncoming traffic. EMS personnel told police he suffered a compound fracture.

Officers then spoke with the sedan's driver, identified as Lopez. During the interview, Lopez smelled strongly of a flavored alcoholic beverage. Asked if she had anything to drink, Lopez said she had a couple shots of whiskey and vodka.

A Casper police officer requested that Lopez take a standard field sobriety test. Lopez initially cooperated but began moving around.

The officer attempted to have Lopez take a portable breath test. Lopez would take a breath but did not actually blow through the device.

Lopez agreed to take a blood test.

When police searched the car, they found two pipes used to smoke marijuana and three bottles of liquor.

She is expected to appear in Natrona County Circuit Court Monday afternoon.
