West Casper could soon be the new home of a Fuzzy's Taco Shop and a retail liquor store, if Casper City Council agrees to set aside two liquor licenses for the new establishments.

Johnson Restaurant Group -- owner and operator of Fire Rock Steakhouse, Johnny J's, Old Chicago, CY Discount Liquor and 2nd Street Liquor & Wine -- made the request and outlined its proposal in a Nov. 1 letter to city leaders.

JRG would purchase land on the southeast corner of Talon Drive and Wyoming Boulevard next to Mesa Primary Care, where it would construct a strip center to be occupied by Fuzzy's Taco Shop, Mesa Liquor and Wine and one other business, to which JRG would lease the third tenant space.

The restaurant could open in the spring or summer of 2020, with the liquor store planning to open in the fall of 2020.

The two new businesses would employ roughly 50 people. JRG already employs 373 people in Casper.

Some $250,000 in annual sales tax would be generated by the two new businesses.

"Our intent is to have both businesses open within 18 months," JRG President John D. Johnson said in the letter. "We ask that the two Bar and Grill licenses be set aside for 18 months and if we have not used one or both of the licenses within that 18-month period any license not used will be released."

The proposal is set to be presented for 10 minutes during City Council's pre-meeting beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
