The debate on the correct pronunciation of GIF has been going on since its inception.

Most say it with a hard "G" (like gift). Since GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format, and graphics is also pronounced with a hard "G", that seems correct. However, Steve Wilhite, the primary inventor of the GIF format, states it should be pronounced with a soft "G", (like gin), so it would be pronounced like the peanut butter company: Jif.

We took to our Facebook page and asked our listeners for their opinion and the vast majority say it should be pronounced as GIF, with the hard "G" sound.

Someone needs to tell Steve Wilhite that the masses have spoken!
