All over the United States the downtown associations are working to revitalize the cities that were once thriving and bringing them back to prominence.

The organization 'Main Street America' rewards these community programs that are working hard to do just that and this years semifinalist have been announced.

Laramie's Main Street Alliance is one of the eight 2022 semifinalists. LMSA has been around since 2005 when it was founded by volunteers in the community that were looking to bring back the downtown district in Laramie. Since coming into existence, the organization has been the driver of many local projects like the Laramie Mural Project, Downtown Farmers Market, Laramie Brewfest, downtown bike racks and other great community projects.

In 2021, Laramie's Main Street Alliance was the leading organization in many major projects to bring the attention from the National Chapter.

The eight semifinalist were chosen from entries from Main Street America chapters all over the country based on a few different factors.

  • Strength of the Main Street Program being part of the communities transforming
  • Being committed to upholding the history of the downtown area
  • Community Outreach & Projects
  • Commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion
  • Working with other groups to get projects completed
  • Engagement of all those involved

In the years since the inception of the Nationwide program, there have been well over 100 Main Street programs recognized for their work in their cities. Wyoming has had a couple passed winners since 1995.

  • Rock Spring, WY in 2018
  • Rawlins, WY in 2015

The winners will be announced coming up at the National Main Street Now conference in the middle of May.

Congratulations to all involved. Check out this video all about Laramie, Wyoming.
