He traveled the world in one of the biggest bands ever, but in the end, he came home to Wyoming.

Michael learned percussion in various Boy Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps. Later, after 4 years in the US Navy during the Vietnam war, he ended up in California where he was invited to jam with a band that actually was auditioning him to be a part of their bold “dual-drummer” lineup.

“Big Mike” laid down the backbeat for some of their biggest hits including "Jesus Is Just Alright," "Listen to the Music," "China Grove,” “Long Train Runnin”, and the band’s first #1 hit single “Blackwater”.

Unfortunately, cancer forced him out of the band and he came home to Dubois, Wyoming to be with family and friends.  Michael had played sold out concerts all over the world, but his last appearance was at the Davis Funeral Home in Riverton, Wyoming

The Doobie Brothers’ drummer Michael Hossack died of cancer at his home in Dubois, WY. on this day, March 12, 2012. He was 65.

Mike was survived by his son Mike Jr. of Dallas Tx. and daughter Erica Oliver of Denver CO.

“In 2010, Hossack wrote a message to his fans explaining that while "it's been hard not touring with the band," he had "incredible support" from his family, friends and the Doobie Brothers.”
