The Night Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers Rocked Wyoming
As we celebrate the illustrious life and career of Tom Petty, here's a look back at the one and only time The Heartbreakers played in the great state of Wyoming.
It was a rainy night on Friday, August 29, 2003, when the Lost Cities tour stopped at the Snow King Amphitheater in Jackson. The band took the stage with "American Girl" and the hits kept on coming.
The rain didn't bother the sold-out crowd, who sang along as the venerable classic rockers performed a 16-song set, including "Free Fallin", "I Won't Back Down", "Refugee", and "Running Down A Dream" before closing the show with a cover of Joe Williams "Baby, Please Don't Go".
While Petty and The Heartbreakers may have only performed one Wyoming concert, they were regulars at one of the region's most legendary venues. During their 40 year career, the band played 18 shows at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado, including a two-night stand earlier this year.
