Demaryius Thomas, you amaze and inspire me. I hope you can get your mother there to watch you in person, this Sunday

Denver Broncos Wide Receiver Demaryius Thomas hopes his mother will be able to finally see him play football. Peyton Manning’s favorite target is trying to make that happen this Sunday, when Denver (12-4) hosts Pittsburgh (11-6) in a playoff game at Mile High.

The snag in the plan is that his mother was arrested on drug trafficking charges when Demaryius was just 11 years old and because she has been incarcerated for all that time, she never got to see him play football--in high school, college or the NFL, where he is smokin’ hot!

Last summer, his mother, Katina Smith was released from federal prison when President Barack Obama commuted her sentence on drug trafficking charges. It was part of the president’s efforts to cut down on our bloated prison population with the release of non-violent offenders.

Thomas says a reunion “would mean a lot. This would be her first game. I’ll be excited. She’ll be excited.”

Katina has been in a Georgia halfway house since November and hasn’t been permitted to travel for 60 days. Because of the Broncos’ crucial win over San Diego and a first-round bye, Denver set up the dynamic where Smith could have the opportunity to see her son play for the very first time.

It would be worth the drive down I-25, from Wyoming to Denver, just to watch THE MAN who, without a mother since he was 11 years old, play a key role, for a top team, in a critical playoff game this Sunday afternoon.

God Bless you, Demaryius Thomas, you amaze and inspire me. I hope you can get your mother there to watch you play in person, this Sunday, at 2:40 p.m. (on CBS for the rest of us).
