The Westboro Baptist Church are no strangers to Casper.  Most Casperites remember the WBC from protesting the funeral service held for Matthew Shepard in 1998 in Casper.  The WBC has now targeted the Connecticut tragedy as their next protesting platform.  The internet has been reacting extensively and Casper residents are getting in on the discussion.

The Westboro Baptist Church is an American, Independent Baptist church known for its extreme ideologies. The church is widely described as a hate group and is monitored as such by the Anti-Defamation League and Southern Poverty Law Center.  The WBC has recently announced that they plan to protest the funerals in Connecticut because it is their view that "god sent the shooter to Connecticut."  A Facebook discussion was posted and here is what Casper had to say.

A White House petition has been started to label the WBC a "hate group".  The petition currently has almost 200,000 signatures and the number is growing.  A second petition is also rapidly growing.  This one to launch an investigation into the tax-exempt status of the church, which could cause them to lose their church status.  Do you think the WBC should be labeled as a "hate group"?  Leave a comment with your thoughts.
