The mighty machines of transit come to the railyards of The Cheyenne Depot for repair.

“No other railroad in this country has retained its historical equipment and honored its past like Union Pacific. The preservation of its fleet speaks to the high value Union Pacific places on its heritage and its role in America's history.”

The work inside is usually reserved for just once per year during Cheyenne Depot Days, but 2017 has been an exception. The popular but rare tours are a tribute to the history of the iron horse.

A 118-foot high clock tower caps the Union Pacific Depot, constructed in 1886. Along with its roundhouse, turntable and machine shop, it established Cheyenne, the territory and the State of Wyoming. It played a major role in opening the west and is living history.

Another piece of history will be visiting The Cheyenne Depot on Monday, November 13. Spirit Of The Union Pacific locomotive remembers and honors those who served, appropriate as it is two days after Veterans Day.

“Union Pacific’s Locomotive No. 1943, The Spirit honors the United States’ armed forces and the men and women filling their ranks. Every detail in The Spirit’s trade dress incorporates a piece of each U.S. armed forces branch.”

The Salute to the Military Tour will be in Cheyenne on Nov. 13, 2017 at the Cheyenne Depot Museum, 121 W. 15th St.

The free event is open to the public 10:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. On Display: 11:00 a.m. – Noon. There is no fee.
