Scottish Irish Festival Could Draw 90,000
We can thank Peggy Young and her father James Durward for starting the Longs Peak Scottish-Irish Highland Festival 40 years ago as way to bring tourists to Estes Park after Labor Day.
So what began as a four family picnic in a park and is now a gathering of some 80,000 clans and fans of all things Scottish & Irish 40 years later. The annual Long's Peak Scottish-Irish Highland Festival is the weekend following Labor Day, in Estes Park, Colorado. This year’s dates are September 8 to 11.
The festival begins with parades, and features, military and pipe bands, highland games, caber toss, hammer throws, strong man competition, jousting, Celtic music, dance performances and live contemporary Scottish & Irish music, ,and other family friendly events like a dog show contests, a living history village along with shopping, Scottish and Irish food (HAGGIS, TRY IT), drinks and crafts and the opportunity to trace your heritage if you like. There’s lots more.
