Wyoming’s Favorite Fake Film Star: Bill Kelso
William 'Wyoming Bill' Kelso is arguably the best, and possibly the only, fictional film star to ever hail from the Cowboy State.
Kelso's character was portrayed by actor Denny Miller in the 1968 comedy The Party.
Considered to be one of the most experimental films of its era, many scenes in the movie were improvised, including the tale of 'Wyoming Bill'.
Set at a Hollywood dinner party, an aspiring actor from India, played by Peter Sellers, meets famous western star Wyoming Bill.
After politely giving his newfound fan an autograph, Wyoming Bill is accidentally shot by a toy gun.
Although Wyoming Bill is only featured in a few scenes, they are among the most popular moments of the movie, which has become a cult classic over the years.
The character even inspired a band who named themselves The Spirit of Wyoming Bill Kelso.
