Let’s face it, we’ve all done it.  We get a gift from someone that, even though it was a nice gesture, the gift, for some reason, just wasn’t our cup of tea.  So do we throw it away?  Certainly not, that would be wasteful.  So what do we do?  We find another friend who might better like the gift and give it to them, thus making us what is commonly known as “a regifter!”

According to this study, at least 39% of us have admitted to being regifters, which makes me wonder how many others who aren’t in this percentage actually are regifters, but are too ashamed to admit it!  So my question is, is it ok to be a regifter?  Some experts say that regifting is perfectly fine, just as long as you don’t get caught.  You have to be very careful that the gift your regiving, doesn’t go back to the person that gave it to you, or to a close friend who might know that friend who gave you the gift.

Now my brother Steve is a little vindictive.  When we kids were growing up, we would trade names as to who was going to get what sibling something for Christmas.  One year, my brother John got my brother Steve’s name, and when Christmas came, Steve opened up his gift, only to be disappointed that it was a video about the Minnesota Twins.  My brother Steve doesn’t even like baseball, let alone the Minnesota Twins.  So he decided he was going to hang onto that gift, because he knew that there would be a Christmas where he would get my brother John’s name.  Sure enough, 2 years later, my brother Steve got my brother John’s name for Christmas, so guess what my brother Steve gave him…yea, that none too pretty!

Are you a regifter, and if so, did you ever get caught?
