UPDATE (12 p.m.)

The 'no unnecessary travel advisory' has been rescinded for Outer Drive, but remains in effect for WY 257 and U.S. 20/26/87.

===============================================

The Wyoming Department of Transportation is asking drivers to avoid WY 257 and Outer Driver, WY 258, due to winter weather conditions.

WYDOT advised that the road surfaces were slick with snowfall as of 6 a.m. Thursday.

Meanwhile, Casper Mountain Road, WY 252, remained closed with no estimated reopening time.

Other highways in the Casper area remained closed, with the exception of the old Glenrock highway and U.S. 20-26. However, WYDOT currently prohibits unnecessary travel on both of those highways. Those road surfaces are in poor condition.

Interstate 25 is still closed, as is I-80 between Cheyenne and Rock Springs. Most highways in eastern, southeastern and east-central Wyoming remain closed.

Casper Police Department Sgt. Jeff Bullard told K2 Radio News during Thursday's morning show that city streets are in remarkably better shape than they were Wednesday. The arterial streets have been plowed, but the road surfaces are largely still in poor shape and drivers should use caution if heading out today.

That said, for those who don't have somewhere to be, Bullard says it's a great day to stay home.
