Will you be up before the sun this week?

Be sure to watch for the northern lights if you are out and about during the late night and early morning hours this week as NOAA has issued a magnetic storm watch.

The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration released a 48-hour magnetic storm watch from 6 p.m. MST on Tuesday, April 12, until 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 14. Portions of Wyoming are within the range of viewing for the Aurora Borealis or northern lights.

Have you ever witnessed them in person? Years ago, on a trip through northern Wyoming, we saw them and pulled off the side of the road to watch. All of the green swirling lights were mesmerizing.

If you find yourself awake over night, there are plenty of very dark places away from the city lights in Wyoming where you could park and watch for the northern lights. The website, www.softservenews.com, has a link where you can get updates on how far south the Aurora is expected to be able to be seen around the world.

The northern lights are a rare sight, so it might be worth looking for if the weather permits.
