Some call us part of the fly-over states. Nothing to see here. I’m fine with that, keep on moving. Maybe visit as a tourist and leave some cash behind, but otherwise go back home, that’s fine, and so are we.

I come from a small town in Iowa but ended up exploring the bigger cities Tucson, Arizona – Minneapolis, Minnesota - Denver, Colorado – Detroit, Michigan (back when it was the 7th largest city in the US) – Seattle, Washington and several medium sized markets as well.

Visiting New York and Washington D.C., I rode mass transit trains and buses like the locals. It was interesting because it was unusual for me. But I would hate to do that every day.

I like my car. No, correction, I love my car. It is one of the greatest freedoms in the world to hit the road that starts at your door and takes you to anywhere in the world. For some, that’s a problem. Some are so into everything except driving, they get into accidents due to distracted driving.

These attention challenged people should take mass transit, but it seems that they might have problems there as well, as distracted riders.

“26% of mass transit commuters have missed a stop due to distractions on their mobile device.”

Down in Denver, a more localized breakout shows how and why mass transit ridership is so low. It’s a pain on many levels as shown in a Denver.StreetsBlog.org post.

My son in LA sometimes commutes for three or four hours. My son in San Francisco an hour and a half, if he leaves early, plus, he pays a toll and so does his wife who dives seperately. I had my chances to live and work in Los Angeles California, San Francisco, California and in Washington, DC, but if a paycheck is the measure of a man, then I’m out. I want quality of life. I need wide open spaces. Denver is even too crowded these days, even though last week they ranked number one on the list of best places to live in The United States.

No, I love Wyoming. I can see lots of sky, rolling plains and beautiful mountains. And here, my commute is just seven minutes from my front door to the radio station. That is just a perk I enjoy every day, well, six days out of seven. Otherwise, I can where I need within 15 minutes and have access to most everything I need, without the traffic and hassles of the big city.

It crossed my mind, and I thought I would share my gratiude with you here. Thanks, now enjoy your life here in Wyoming.

Thank you Dana Gage
