Waking up with morning wood is as natural as breathing air. Having a stiff one in the morning is just your body's way of telling you that your system checks out OK.

While there's a bunch of science behind it that I don't understand, the AM rager is basically exercise for your mini-me. Not getting enough sleep? Well, just like any other muscle that lacks exercise, you're actually doing your second brain a huge disservice. Without your body's nightly "system check", you could end up giving yourself erectile dysfunction.

BONUS - Another reason for morning wood is to stop yourself from peeing while you sleep. While that first tinkle of the day can be quite a chore (and mess, depending on how far you can bend it down), it's still better than waking up in a sea of pee...
